The process for the introduction of solar collectors and photo cells

Passive solar systems

For passive use of solar energy for heating of the building, of essential importance are its design and location.

When constructing a new building attention should be paid to:

 

•  The direction the building faces

•  The thermo insulation of the building

•  The amount of facade glazing- south, east, west.

•  Ensuring that sunlight has direct access to the building.

•  The type and area of the roof

 

The main steps, that should be undertaken when solar collectors for additional heating are installed:

•  Assess heating energy demand and efficiency according to the building project.

•  Determine the location where the solar collectors will be installed.

•  Contact equipment suppliers and obtain estimates.

•  Determine the area of solar collectors according to the power and sunshine duration in the region and factors effecting installation – the size of the roof, the orientation of the building etc.

•  Contact equipment suppliers for costs and quotes.

•  Analyze estimates and select a supplier of a solar collectors on the basis of cost, quality and availability of equipment

•  Prepare a financial evaluation of the project - capital costs, operation costs, expected incomes, and estimated profit return.

•  Consider the financial situation and sources of funding - evaluation of own capital, ‘soft' loans and sources for raising credit and funding or grants from national or European programs or initiatives. (See chapter 6).

•  Prepare an application for planning permission.

•  Select and sign a contract with a company, specialized in the installation and maintenance of solar collectors ( if the supplier does not do that ).

•  Order the selected equipment.

•  Organize training for the operational staff.

•  Organize the delivery of the equipment.

•  Installation by a specialized company.

•  Confirm health and safety requirements related to the installation.

 

•  Start using the solar collectors.

 

 

 

Photovoltaic panels

 

The main actions, undertaken, when photo cells are installed are:

 

  1. Assessment of the solar potential of the region (latitude, duration of annual sunshine).
  2. Determine where the photo cells will be installed.
  3. Contact equipment suppliers and receive estimates.
  4. Ensure that the photo cell area is suitable for installing- size of the roof and orinetation of the building.
  5. Analyze estimates and select a supplier of a solar collectors on the basis of cost, quality and availability of equipment .
  6. Prepare a financial evaluation of the project - capital costs, operation costs, expected incomes, and estimated profit return.
  7. Consider the financial situation and sources of funding - evaluation of own capital, ‘soft' loans and sources for raising credit and funding or grants from national or European programs or initiatives. (See chapter 6).
  8. Sign of a contract for sale of the produced energy, when it exceeds the companys own needs.
  9. Order of the selected equipment.
  10. Select and sign a contract with a specialized company for the installation and maintenance of the photo cells (if the supplier does not do that).
  11. Installation of the photo cells by a specialized company.   

 

The technology “Tandem cell”

The technique for the installation of “Tandem cell” technology is identical to that of the photovoltaic panels. The difference is in the construction of a pipe system for transporting and storage of the produced hydrogen.
