The process for the introduction of geothermal energy

The main actions, you should undertake in the installation, are:

Assess the energy demand - that can be evaluated from a energy efficiency plan for the building.

Determine the available geothermal sources in the region.

Find out who owns the property (is it private or state owned).

Determine the location of the installation of the geothermal station.

Obtain planning permission for the creation of technology projects, approval for construction, evaluation on environment impact and others in compliance with the local legislation.

Contact equipment suppliers and obtain estimates.

Analyze estimates and select of the most appropriate type of geothermal station and a supplier on basis of quality, costs and productivity.

Prepare a financial evaluation of the project - capital costs, operation costs, expected incomes, and estimated profit return.

Consider the financial situation and sources of funding - evaluation of own capital, ‘soft' loans and sources for raising credit and funding or grants from national or European programs or initiatives. (See chapter 6).

Creation of a financial evaluation of the project-capital costs, operation costs, expected incomes and term for payback of the investment.

Financial insurance of the project- own capital assessment, a possibility for drawing in credit resource, funding by national or European programs and initiatives. (See chapter 6)

Sign a contract for sale of the produced energy.

Order the selected equipment.

Selection and sign a contract with a specialized company for installation and maintenance of the geothermal installation. (If the supplier does not do that).

Training organized for the geothermal installation operation staff.

Installation of the geothermal equipment by a specialized company.

Start the geothermal installation operation.

Health and safety is of paramount importance please ensure that you conduct regular inspections, including Risk Assesment and COSHH and comply with the technical requirements of the company and the manufacturer of the equipment.
